Baked Honey Mustard Chicken

If there’s one recipe that never fails in my kitchen, it’s honey mustard chicken. It’s the kind of dish I turn to again and again because it checks every box: sweet, tangy, savory, comforting, and unbelievably simple to pull together. The balance of rich mustard and golden honey creates a sauce that tastes like you spent hours developing it — but in reality, it comes together in minutes with pantry staples you probably already have on hand.

What I love most about honey mustard chicken is how versatile it is. It feels just as appropriate on a hectic Tuesday night when everyone is hungry and impatient as it does at a relaxed weekend dinner with friends. It’s elegant enough to serve at a gathering, yet easy enough to make when you barely have the energy to cook. Whether you’re meal prepping for the week, feeding picky eaters, or just craving something satisfying and flavorful, this dish consistently delivers big results with very little effort.

The magic really happens in the oven (or skillet), where the sauce thickens and caramelizes around the chicken, creating a glossy coating that locks in moisture and flavor. The outside turns beautifully golden, while the inside stays tender and juicy. Every bite has that perfect contrast — a little sweetness from the honey, a gentle tang from the mustard, and a savory depth that keeps you coming back for more.

So let’s make the kind of honey mustard chicken that’s juicy on the inside, golden on the outside, and generously coated in the most irresistible sauce — the kind you’ll want to drizzle over everything on your plate.

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 3 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried parsley

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the Dijon mustard, wholegrain Dijon, honey, olive oil, minced garlic, paprika, and parsley until well combined.
  • Place the chicken breasts in a baking dish and pour the honey mustard sauce evenly over the top. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to marinate (this step is optional, but highly recommended for the best flavor).
  • When ready to cook, take the chicken out of the fridge and preheat your oven to 380°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part reads 165°F.
  • Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to redistribute and keep the meat tender.
  • Store in a glass container for up to 4 days.

Notes

I recommend adding the chicken to a nourish bowl.  It pairs nicely with our Maple Dijon Dressing! https://cashewsandcarrots.com/maple-dijon-dressing/
